O projeto divulga candidaturas, em todo o país, que se comprometeram com vida dos animais. Teca Nelma é protetora independente há mais de cinco anos. Resgata, castra, vacina e busca uma nova casa para os animais.

“Sempre fui apaixonada pelos animais. E esse amor se multiplicou depois que entendi o impacto socioeconômico do consumo de carne no mundo. Não envolve apenas a forma como esses animais são abatidos, mas também as consequências ao meio ambiente. Por isso, também sou vegetariana”, disse Teca Nelma.

Ela reforça também a necessidade de leis municipais, que garantam o direito à vida e a dignidade dos animais. “Maceió tem poucas leis para os animais. Isso mostra o quanto o poder público ainda é omisso ao tema. O número de cachorros, gatos, cavalos e outros animais nas ruas só cresce. É um problema de saúde pública, porque eles também transmitem doenças aos humanos. Precisamos nos unir para mudar essa realidade”.

Casos de crueldade contra animais são frequentes em Alagoas. Em 2019, a Comissão do Bem-estar Animal da Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil, em Alagoas, recebeu cerca de 200denúncias de maus tratos. “No mês passado, em setembro, demos um passo importante com a sanção da lei que ampliou para até cinco anos, a pena àqueles que maltratam cães e gatos. Foi uma grande vitória. Mas Maceió precisa de leis mais específicas, que tornem realidade o castra móvel gratuito e os abrigos para tutela de animais”, reafirmou Teca Nelma.
